What data we collect & why

1) Information you choose to give us

  • Email subscriptions & forms. If you subscribe, download a freebie, or contact us, we collect your name (optional) and email so we can send emails or reply.
Legal basis (GDPR/UK GDPR): consent and/or legitimate interests (running the site, responding to inquiries).
  • Comments. When you leave a comment, WordPress may collect the data shown in the comment form plus your IP address and browser user-agent string to help spam detection. If you opt in, WordPress can store your name/email/website in cookies so you don’t have to re-enter them next time.
  • Giveaways/surveys. If we run a giveaway or survey, we’ll tell you what we’re collecting and why at the time (e.g., to pick a winner and contact them).

2) Information we collect automatically

  • Server logs & security. Our hosting platform records IP address, pages visited, date/time, referrer, and browser type. We use this to keep the site secure and reliable.
  • Cookies & similar tech. See “Cookies” below.
  • Analytics. We use privacy-respecting analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics or similar) to understand what content is helpful. We view aggregate trends, not to identify you personally.

3) Information from partners

  • Affiliate programs. Some links are affiliate links. If you click and buy, the seller may use a cookie to know who referred you so we can earn a small commission. We do not receive your full payment details.

Cookies (and how to control them)

We use the following categories of cookies:

  • Strictly necessary: basic site functions and security.
  • Functional: remember preferences (e.g., commenter details).
  • Analytics: understand traffic and improve content.
  • Advertising/Affiliate: track referrals and measure campaigns.
  • Social media/Embedded content: when you view an embedded Instagram/YouTube post or use share buttons, those platforms may set their own cookies.

Your choices:

  • Use our cookie banner/settings (if shown) to accept/decline categories.
  • Adjust your browser settings to block or delete cookies.
  • Opt out of Google Analytics with the browser add-on (if we use GA).

Embedded content from other websites

Articles may include embedded content (e.g., videos, posts, images). Embedded content behaves as if you visited the other website and may collect data, use cookies, and monitor your interaction. Review the privacy policies of those services.

Email communications

If you subscribe, we’ll send content you requested (newsletters, updates, freebies). You can unsubscribe anytime via the footer link or by contacting us. We do not rent or sell subscriber emails.

Advertising & affiliate disclosure

We may participate in affiliate programs and display sponsored content. Affiliate links are labeled and may use cookies to track referrals. Sponsored content will be clearly identified. We do not sell your personal information.

Children’s privacy (COPPA)

This site is intended for adults (parents/caregivers/educators). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child provided personal information here, please contact us and we will delete it.

Your privacy rights

If you are in the EEA/UK (GDPR/UK GDPR)

You have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data; data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time. You may also object to processing based on legitimate interests.

If you are a California resident (CCPA/CPRA)

You have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and share; to delete certain personal information; to correct inaccuracies; and to opt out of sale/share of personal information.
We do not sell personal information. If our practices change, we will update this policy and provide a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link.

Exercising your rights

Email us at [email protected] We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling requests.

Data retention

We keep information only as long as needed:

  • Emails: until you unsubscribe or we no longer send newsletters.
  • Comments: indefinitely (so conversations remain), unless you request deletion.
  • Server logs/analytics: typically 12–26 months, depending on the provider’s settings.
We’ll keep information longer if required by law, to resolve disputes, or to enforce agreements.

Data security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards (e.g., HTTPS, limited access, reputable hosting, updated software). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

International data transfers

Our site and servers are located in the United States. If you access the site from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the U.S. By using the site, you consent to this transfer.

Third-party service providers

We use trusted providers to operate the site (hosting, email service, analytics, security, affiliate platforms). These processors only access data to perform tasks on our behalf and must protect it. Current categories include:

  • Website hosting & security
  • Email newsletter service
  • Analytics (e.g., Google Analytics or similar)
  • Affiliate platforms and link management
  • Spam detection (e.g., Akismet if enabled)

We’ll update this policy if our providers or purposes materially change.

Your content & privacy choices

We use pseudonyms for our family in posts and images. If you submit a comment or testimonial, you can choose what name to display. Please avoid sharing sensitive personal information in comments.

Links to other websites

We link to other sites we don’t control. Review their privacy policies; we aren’t responsible for their practices.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll change the “Effective date” above and, if changes are material, we’ll post a notice on the site.
